2021 Spotlight on Trevor Meadows

This is the third time i have participated in Devon Open Studios. It is a great event. I get a lot of energy from meeting the visitors.

I am an artist printmaker. Essentially, I draw images from which I make prints. I experiment with many of the printing processes, although most of my work uses lino. I am really fortunate to live on Dartmoor, under Lustleigh Cleave. The environment inspires most of my images – livestock, flowers, local wildlife and people.

I work a small farm as a food producer. It is hard physical work in a tough environment. My art is my down time, relaxation from farming. A chance to drift off, daydream and lose myself in the concentration and focus that printmaking demands.

I’ve been drawing and printmaking for 5 years. I really enjoy the processes. I converted a barn into a home studio. It has lots of light and super views. On a good day, my view is Hunters Tor, Haytor and Easdon. The studio is quite simple, with 2 key pieces of kit, my press and cd player. I love to work with the music on.

I enjoy the practice of printmaking. Trying to create a look and feel. Layering colours creates its own issues and opportunities. The final piece has its own quirkiness. The result is as much my own efforts plus the unique culmination of the processes and how the colours blend and interact with each other and the paper.
